This past week I had the opportunity to go to one of my favorite places, the Texas panhandle. My love of the panhandle started out my junior year of high school. I wanted a Hereford steer so bad for my senior year and my dad and I were determined to find one. We made several trips to Oklahoma and Texas, and were fortunate enough to meet Mr. Stan Born from Darrouzett, Texas. Not only did we find a steer, but we also found my all time favorite show heifer, TEX Ms Rachel. While Rachel wasn't always the most pleasant show heifer in the world, she once ran out of the show ring backwards during the Supreme Drive, we did have alot of success and she has made a tremendous cow. This week I went back to the Born Ranch to photograph a bull Stan raised, he is a Carpe Diem son named Encore and he looks tremendous. He is extremely wide based, big boned, stout, soft made, and has great hair. Semen will be available this fall and I look forward to flushing my "favorite show heifer" to him.
